Which massage modality is best for you?

Therapeutic Massage, also known as Neuromuscular Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy or Myotherapy, is a type of massage that addresses specific muscles at various points of the body. This type of massage has positive benefits for those who suffer from chronic pain. This concentrated session focuses on a specific muscle area to relieve pain rather than just broadly treating tensions over surface muscles. Therapeutic massage is very effective for low back pain, soft tissue injuries and muscle spasms. At the heart of where our name came from, this treatment may have a "Hurts So Good" feel to it, but the pressure from this massage will alleviate any deeper muscle tension and pain you are experiencing. We consistently communicate with our clients during this massage to ensure that the pressure is not too much or too little and we always respond accordingly. Many of our clients use this type of massage as a regular program for specific medical issues or to manage the pain caused by an active lifestyle.

Deep Tissue Massage is an intensive, deep-reaching, cross fiber massage technique intended to work out stubborn knots and chronic muscle tension that is commonly found throughout the body. This technique may cause a slight discomfort and soreness that can last a couple of days before yielding the desired results. During this session we will use a lighter massage to warm up the muscles and then apply direct, strong pressure with cross fiber friction on the grain of the muscles. This massage is good for athletes, fitness buffs and massage regulars.

This technique focuses on the areas of your body that feel stiff instead of elastic and movable. The fascia in these areas typically restrict muscle and joint movement, which contributes to muscle pain. A Myofascial Release session is performed directly on skin without any cream to facilitate the release of tight fascia.

An Athletic Massage is typically given before and/or after a sporting event. It includes stretching to help prevent injury, as well as a Therapeutic Massage to help energize different muscle groups. This type of massage is used as a preventative measure to help avoid injuries and is great for continued muscle management programs. It's typically used by athletes who are in training or currently competing. During this session we will use different massage modalities and stretching techniques to improve your flexibility and range of motion. This massage will also help to stimulate the nervous system for better performance, and help reduce the chance of muscle injury.

Hurts So Good Massage is proud to offer Certified Pregnancy Massage: including labor support massage, postpartum massage and newborn massage instruction. Research shows that pregnancy massage strengthens the immune system, decreases blood pressure and stress hormones, shortens labor time and helps restore the body during the postpartum phase. We can provide relief for the common discomforts a mother may be experiencing during and after her pregnancy.

We use Myokinesthetics to solve pain problems by focusing on the nervous system via stimulating the muscular system. During this treatment we will do an assessment which detects postural abnormalities that may cause a physical impairment. The goal is to find the cause of pain and clear it, so that all compensations will clear away also. Through this processs we stimulate each muscle along a nerve pathway in order to send a signal to the brain that says there is change happening. Once the brain receives these signals it makes the necessary changes effecting the “cause” pathway, and in turn the brain automatically fixes the “compensation” pathway. This treatment requires client participation, involves lots of mini movements, and no cream is applied to the skin.

This is an abdominal massage that combines compression techniques and friction to smooth away adhesions around your organs. The goal is to help your organs get the circulation and nutrients they need to function properly. Visceral Manipulation helps reduce chronic muscle pain, minimizes bloating and constipation, reduces joint pain, improves sciatica, improves digestion and bladder incontinence. It also helps with chest and abdominal sports injuries and alleviates nausea and acid reflux.

Swedish Massage is one of the most relaxing massage modalities a therapist can use to eliminate stress. This massage uses long gliding strokes, kneading and other movements focused on the superficial layers of the body to reduce recovery time from a strain, increase oxygen flow throughout the body and release toxins from muscles. Our Swedish Massage melts tension away and addresses your physical and functional needs by relieving stiffness, numbness and pain. It will increase flexibility and stimulate your body’s natural pain killers (endorphins). Many of our clients use Swedish massage as a regular program for stress management.
